Senior night was an intense yet memorable night for the girls.

The Lady Patriots began the game with some abundant energy and outstanding teamwork. Junior Cynthia Washicko and Junior Amanda Simpson demonstrated good communication as they were able to quickly get the ball down the field. Then, when Oxford had possession of the ball again Senior Lani Ancheta and Sophomore Erica Rios also played well together as they crossed the ball to each other and then to Senior Sara Ha, who made an attempt to score. Throughout the first half of the game the Lady Patriots made very close attempts to score. The ball was always painfully close but it was not a goal. The few times that Northview would come somewhat close to scoring, Sophomore Alex Moctezuma, a defender, would forcefully strike the ball down the field. The ladies were able to push the action of the game on Northview’s field, as they played offense for most of the time. Lani Ancheta and Erica Rios were among the closest players to score in the first half of the game. The first half ended after Oxford successfully blocked a sharp free kick from Northview. It ended 0-0.

With revived hopes the ladies began the second half of the game. Oxford’s defense seemed alert and well prepared since Northview began to play more aggressively. When Northview made some attempts to score, the goalie Junior Heather Bermudez blocked intensely and shot the ball down the field. Later, Simpson and Freshman Rosemarry Garry came very close to scoring, but were only close to scoring. Once again Northview attempted to score but OA played a good defense with some high kicks. Sophomore Alyssa Ancheta played skillfully as she stopped the fast paced ball and crossed it down the field. Then, when Freshman Katie Ha, a very determined player, shot the ball, the lobster red referee called out off sides. Alyssa Ancheta and Rios played aggressively and together on the last moments of the second half. The tension increased when Rios, crossed the ball to Simpson, who crossed the ball to Washicko who made yet another close attempt to score but the ball bounced off the goal post. The second half ended after Sophomore Karina Carpio crossed the ball down the field to Lani who made another close attempt to score. This kept the crown on their toes as they waited the necessary overtime. The score remained unchanged, 0-0, but the girls nevertheless kept their hopes and efforts up, as they received extra support from the crowd.

The game intensified as the overtime began. The game continued, but was interrupted when the referee called out a yellow card on a Northview player who tripped Lani twice. This agitated Northview causing them to regain momentum to score. Moctezuma was a powerhouse as she defended with head blocks and shots. The referee unjustly called the end of the first overtime in pivotal moment where Lani was just about to score. The girls’ strength and effort continued, however. The game ended when Lani assisted Amanda Simpson in scoring the first goal, 1-0.

The girls’ never ending effort paid off as they persisted to score till the end of the game. Their excellent team chemistry and teamwork was apparent and necessary throughout. Fairly, senior night was probably one of their most exhilarating games of the season.
