The JV Girls took on the Sage train in a two game fight on the final game of the season.
Oxford first got onto the board with a serve from Sage Hill, who sent it into the net after consecutively scoring 4 points. They continued to score because of the team’s good eye for when a ball was hit out of bounds and communication. The third point was scored when the ball was spiked over the net, hitting a Sage Hill team member, and falling to the floor. Then the game started to heat up with a spirited rally that went on for thirty seconds, scoring another point for Oxford when Sage Hill hit the ball out. An Oxford player went for a dig, but still could not save the score from becoming 4-10 Sage Hill. After a time out, Oxford went on to bring the score up to 7-10 Sage Hill, with three rallies resulting in a Sage Hill player hitting the ball out. As the game went on, Oxford scored by carefully watching for when the ball was out of bounds. With the score 11-23, defense by Junior Jaime Chen kept the ball on Sage’s side of the net with a tip, scoring Oxford another point. Freshman Diana Le went for a kill over the net, bringing Oxford up the score to 13-24 Sage Hill. Sage was able to score the final point, ending the first game 13-25 Sage Hill. In the second game, Oxford came back revived and ready to fight back against Sage Hill. The first few points were scored when Sage Hill hit the ball into the net, followed by a rally, which ended in a point for Oxford when Sage hill failed to save the ball from going out. Freshman Jennifer Tran put up an effort with a dig, but couldn’t help the score from becoming 4-9 Sage Hill. After a kill, Oxford scored another point when a Sage Hill player dove and missed. The next shot went right to the corner, scoring Oxford another point, bringing the score up to 6-12 Sage Hill. A series of rallies kept up by quick dives and incredible saves brought Oxford’s score up to 8-12. A Sage Hill player accidentally touched the ball that was hit by Jennifer Tran, bringing the score up to 9-13. Freshman Jasmine Hernandez helped score the 10th point with a dig over the net that Sage was unable to save. Oxford fought valiantly in the next series of rallies, where it was obvious Sage Hill’s front line was tiring out, leaving the score at 11-16 Sage Hill. Sage Hill scored 4 more points, but that didn’t stop Freshman Diana Le from hitting it over the net, with the return going out of bounds, scoring Oxford another point. Junior Riya Che ran into the sidelines to try and save a ball passed out of bounds, but the point went to Sage Hill, the score 11-21. Oxford scored points 12 and 13 when Sage Hill consecutively was unable to save a pass that went out of bounds. Sage Hill then went on to hit the ball up into the rafters, and landing out of bounds, scoring Oxford another point. Point 17 was scored when Sage Hill thought they were on time out, and the distraction resulted in an ace for Oxford. With the score at 17-24, Junior Riya Che attempted to go for a dig when the kill was spiked right to her, but she was unable to save it. The second game ended 17-25 Sage Hill, a 0-2 loss for Oxford. |
