The girls were looking to continue their solid league play by getting another win over Crean Lutheran on Friday.

The girls came out strong as Junior Celina Vicuna got things started with a kill, 1-0. Crean was able to rally and get the next three points, but Senior Vivian Martin came back with a kill of her own to make it 2-3. After another exchange between the two teams, Vicuna was able to come back with an ace to give Oxford the lead, 5-4. Crean then took a 2 point lead but Senior Lani Ancheta came through with a kill to make it 6-7. With the score tied at 8 apiece, Junior Vianca Morales was able to serve an ace and give Oxford the lead, 9-8. The girls built up their lead with well placed hits and made it 12-8. Crean fought back and narrowed the lead to 1, 15-14. But Morales silenced the rally attempt by Crean with a kill to make it 18-15. Lani followed that up with a kill of her own to make it 19-15. Sophomore Alyssa Ancheta was able to ace the next serve to continue Oxford’s streak of strong plays, 20-15. Morales then came up big again with back-to-back kills to make it 22-15. Crean was able to get a side out and attempt to rally but the lead was too much. Senior Sophia Lee and Vicuna were able to end the game with back-to-back kills, 25-17.

Crean came out winning the first two points of the second game, but Vicuna came through with a kill, 2-1. After another exchange of points, Martin got a block to narrow it to a 1 point deficit, 2-3. Sophomore Tammy Cho was able to get Oxford the lead with a kill, 4-3. Crean was able to get the side out, but Oxford got it right back and Alyssa followed it up with a kill of her own, 5-4. Vicuna was able to come through with an ace and give Oxford the 3 point lead, 7-4. Senior Alexis Medina came through with a back row kill to continue the run, 10-4. Vicuna then came up huge with three straight aces and followed that up with a back row kill, 15-4. Following the kill, she came right back with two more aces to make it 16-4. A minor miscommunication by Oxford ended the run, but the lead had already been extended to 13, 17-4. After the girls got the ball right back, Alyssa had an ace to make it 19-5. Lani was then able to come up with a kill to make it 20-7. After a Crean error, Martin got another kill to make it 22-7. That was followed up by an ace by Cho to make it 23-7. Crean got the side out and attempted to rally back, coming within 11, but an ace by Lani ended it, 25-12.

Crean came out strong to start the third game winning the first 3 points, but Vicuna was able to silence the run with a kill, 1-3. Lee followed that up with an ace to make it 2-3. Crean was then able to play strong and build up a 4 point lead, 3-7. But Morales was able to come up huge with back-to-back kills to make it 5-7. Lani followed that up with her own kill to narrow the lead to 1, 6-7. The two teams then battled it out and the score came up tied, 9-9. Morales ended the silence with a kill to give Oxford a 5 point lead, 12-9. Lee came up with a kill of her own to extend the lead to 5, 14-9. Crean took advantage of some miscommunications by Oxford to make it 15-13. Oxford rallied back to build the lead back up and a nicely placed hit by Vicuna got it back to 5, 18-13. The two teams then exchanged points to make it 20-15. Cho broke up the exchange with an ace to make it 21-15. Morales came up with another kill to make it 23-16. Another back row kill by Medina put the game out of reach, 24-17. Morales ended the game with a kill to close it out, 25-18.

The girls were practically flawless during this game. If they continue to play like this, they can make a run down the stretch of the season into CIF. They head into next week looking towards the rematch with St. Margaret’s.
