"Something that really inspired me was my technical inclination and curiosity with technology. It takes a lot of self-motivation to do what I do."
James Guan, Website Administrator What appealed to you the most about GameDay, that made you want to join? GameDay’s website appealed most to me when I first heard about GameDay. I thought that I could help GameDay out a lot with their website, so I started talking to some of my friends who were already in GameDay and they helped me talk to the right people to join. So, what exactly do you do? I basically maintain the technical aspect of the GameDay website. The writers and photographers help provide content for the website, but I make sure that the website is working and that all the content is uploaded correctly. I also make special pages from time to time for special events such as homecoming. What does it take to get where you are now? It takes a lot of responsibility, perseverance, and self motivation to succeed. You have to make sure that you take responsibility for tasks that may or may not be delegated to you. Don’t just stand on the sidelines while everyone else is working. See what you can do to get involved. You have to persevere and work as hard as you can to get things done on time. This takes a lot of self motivation. Something that really inspired me was my technical inclination and curiosity with technology. I really wanted to try something new and I thought that helping maintain a website would challenge me. My job was not easy at times, but in the end, my perseverance and hard work paid off because the GameDay website is accessed by a lot of students and has helped increase athletic spirit among the usually academic Oxford student body. What are the best & worst parts about your job? The best part of my job is seeing my work pay off when lots of people use the website and see all the work that I have put into it and all the work that the writers and photographers have put in. The worst part of my job is dealing with coding and dealing with updating technical parts of the website. Any last words or commentary you have say about GameDay? Even though GameDay is an athletics spirit club, it still interested me. I am probably the least sports oriented person in the world, but I saw that GameDay had opportunities for people who may not know anything about sports. The website stood out to me, but for others it might be writing or photography. |
