Boys Soccer Interview with Sophomore Ryan Ly
Do you think you have what it takes to be on varsity? Why? I do believe I have what it takes, but only because of the effort I put in to practice and scrimmages. I know I'm not the best, but I'm constantly trying to improve, and prove to coach that I'm good enough to play with the big boys.Do you like the position that you play?(like sometimes the coach puts a player in a specific position because they like how they play there but the player doesn't)Explain. I love my position as a forward, because the beauty of scoring goals. I know for a fact, that if my coach changed my position and I disagreed, I'd still play that position to my best. But oh yeah, goal scoring is the only thing I play for.Do you believe that seniors should have a spot on varsity because of seniority? Why? I am a real strong believer in hard work, and I think everyone should have a chance at varsity regardless of their seniority or class. I know coach is strict about that, and if he sees anyone slacking he'd pull them out instantly. There were a few seniors on jv last year.Would you want soccer to be a period instead of having it after school? Why? Yes, if soccer was a period we'd get so much more done, with heightened enthusiasm. If it was a class, we would go beyond the effort that we already put in. Being there after school cuts in time for homework, and other things we need to get done, for clubs or outside of school.Do you like practice, like how it is run? Why? You know, to be honest, sometimes I really hate leaving out to practice so early; we have to be there right at 3:00, or we run more. But when I do the drills, and get all the way through practice, I usually enjoy most of it. If we didn't have to run so much, I'd really enjoy practice. But to sum it up, Josh knows what he's doing.Do you think soccer is made up of running or basic ball skills? Why? I think soccer is made up of a lot of both; the feet have to be quick to perform moves against defenders, but the basic ball skills are extremely important. Like for example, kicking with the bad foot. Although it seems tedious, it's a basic ball skill (that I can't do), so the more skills you lack, the less freedom you have with the ball. |
