Alyssa Ancheta answers some of GameDay's questions about the varsity girls volleyball team and its season.

What grade are you in?

I am a sophomore.

How long have you been playing volleyball?

I have been playing since 7th grade.

What made you decide to do volleyball?

Volleyball is a really fun sport. Also, my sister Lani was playing so her and I wanted to be on the same team and play together.

Now that league is just beginning, what are your overall expectations?

I think that we have the potential to beat most of the other teams, but I think that St. Margarets will be our greatest challenge.

Describe the varsity team in 3 words.

Fun, close, and energetic.

Is there anything special you do before a game?

Right before a game, we all hold hands above our heads, put our right foot in the middle of the circle, talk about our strategies, then as a team we cheer.

What is your favorite thing about our team?

My favorite thing is our closeness. We don’t hang out just at practice, but outside of volleyball as well.

What is one of your favorite stories about your team?

At one of our practices, we were doing a drill. Celina didn’t know if the ball was going to be in or out so she went towards the line and then the volleyball hit her in the face.

Do you have a best friend on the team?

I am close to everybody on the varsity team but if I had to choose one person it would probably be Vianca Morales.

Do you have any advice for those who want to be on varsity volleyball next year?

I would tell them to practice a lot, take practice seriously, and listen to the coach.
