Christine Carroll shares her thoughts on the JV Girls Tennis Team.
GD: What motivated to you first start playing tennis? Carroll: I really do not remember what motivated me to play tennis, but I do know that my mother wanted me to join a sport so I can stay physically healthy. I was somehow interested in tennis from the beginning, so I decided to join Oxford Academy’s tennis team.
GD: As one of the few sophomores JV Girls Tennis Team, what do you think of the new incoming players? Carroll: The new incoming players are very friendly. Even though I am a sophomore and the other players are mostly freshmen, I have become friends with them. They are skilled at tennis, and everyone in JV Girls Tennis Team rocks!
GD: If you could describe your team in one sentence, what would it be? Carroll: The JV Girls Tennis Team is one big, happy family.
GD: From your perspective, what was an experience that helped bond the team players together? Carroll: Something that helped bond our team players together was being ourselves and opening up. We were all very shy at first, but once we got to know each other and started talking, we became a family.
GD: Do you think you will keep doing tennis throughout your high school years and what keeps you motivated to play? Carroll: I believe I will keep playing tennis throughout my high school year because it is really fun. It is not only a time of exercise, but a time to have fun with friends as well.
GD: Before every game, how do you mentally or physically prepare yourself? Carroll: Before every game, I rally with my teammates to help myself physically. To help myself mentally, I do not think of tennis games as a competition, but a time to get to know new people. This helps me relax and have fun while I play tennis. Another thing I do to help myself mentally is pray to my God to help us in our games.
GD: What are you thinking as you're about to begin one of your games? Carroll: When I'm about to begin one of my games, I think of winning and the good feeling that would come with it.
GD: How do you find time to balance school, tennis, and your personal life? Carroll: It is kind of hard to balance my time, but somehow, I manage to get everything done. I have just enough time to play tennis, do my homework, and sleep. I try my best to get everything done.
GD: What would you say to an Oxford Academy student who has never seen a tennis game at home? Carroll: You should go see a game because tennis is the best sport in the world! Even though tennis is kind of boring to watch, you should still come to at least one game to support Oxford's girls tennis. The littlest support brings happiness to us.
GD: Do you have any words you’d like to say to our readers? Carroll: Go play a sport to help you stay in shape and most importantly to have fun.
GD: Thanks, Christine!
