A stellar performance by Senior Cameron Bedard led the Patriots to their first league win against Sage Hill in nine innings. Bedard threw eight innings and earned the no-decision after surrendering one run on just two hits and tallying ten strikeouts. The Patriots struck first in the third inning off of an RBI singe from Lucas Sardo. Sage Hill was left silent until the sixth inning when the Patriots second baseman threw the ball into left field on a routine double-play ball up the middle allowing the runner to score and tie the game at one run a piece. Then, in the ninth inning, Nick Foutris, hit a leadoff double off the wall in left. Steve Criss followed with a flyout in the infield after Foutris advanced to third on a past ball. Sage Hill decided to intentionally walk Cameron Bedard and face Lucas Sardo, the team and league leader in RBI. Sardo lined the game winning base hit to right field for his second RBI on the day. With the win, Oxford Academy improves to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Patriots host Artesia (Lakewood, CA) to battle the Pioneers in a non-league contest on Saturday, March 21. |
